Software that uses "Install from web" technology

I don't know what it is, but for some reason when companies use the "install from the web" type installers, it just irritates the hell out of me.

I like to keep the software on hand you know, be able to install it while not on the net sometimes or if I have to re-install it while on the road or something. Plus I like to keep the stuff I download for future use, I know it doesn't take long to re-download but why not keep it? It really doesn't take that much space up, I mean I have downloads as old as early 2000 on my machine and my entire downloads folder is only about 6gigs.

I know Quicktime does this but at least they let you save the cache of files for re-install later. That makes it somewhat acceptable to me. I can see why they might do it, "only download what you need" but why not just offer a complete file too?

I dunno, I just had to rant for a bit. Now I feel a lot better. :) What set me off is that I lost the install CD for my digital camera software and to download it off their site you have to use a install from the web installer.
