Doom 3 - Initial Impressions

Okay, so I've played it for about an hour and half to two hours and here are my initial impressions.

The game has been entertaining so far, maybe not as "thrilling" as all the hype but hardly a bad game. The enviorment isn't as interactive as Half-Life 2, which to me is disappointing because that then makes tactics a lot more important and I like that. But there is still a great feel to the game. When walking through the mostly dark rooms, there are great sound effects. You hear people crawling through air ducts, people crying and screaming, a fair ammount of com traffic on your headset from your fellow soliders pleading for help.

So far I only have three weapons plus the flashlight: the pistol, shotgun, and machine gun. So far, I really like the shotgun, it has a great sound to it. I think I'm starting to see the reasoning behind the duct tape mod, it seems kind of silly almost without it. I think I might give it a try but I'd like it a bunch more if you could turn the light in the mod on and off.

As for performance, the game runs really well on my system. After reading a couple articles about what settings what best on what systems, I set it to 1024x768 at medium quality. I'm getting frame rates usually between 40-50 but I never goes below 30 and sometimes fluctuates up to 60. I might give it a shot on a higher quality level.

I'll post more about it later.
